Hello! My name is Bridget Barrus and I am a Licensed Master Social Worker in the Treasure Valley and I work in a beautiful little cottage near Maple Grove and Franklin in Boise, Idaho. In the social work world, we talk a lot about finding the niche of people we want to serve, the group we are most passionate about. Your family, regardless of its shape, size, or configuration is my passion! In fact, I went back to school to become a social worker and counselor because I believe in and am passionate about helping families!
I began this journey a little over 12 years ago when my husband and I became foster parents. Fast forward a few years and we are now the proud parents of 18 children, fourteen of which have been adopted out of foster care. We have learned a great deal along the way, but nothing prepared us for some of the challenges we would face as individuals, a couple, parents, and as a family walking along side children and teens who had experienced horrific trauma, abuse, and neglect. Some of these challenges included losing a child to suicide, understanding and living with Reactive Attachment Disorder, and working hard to form strong, loving bonds between family members. These challenges (and many more) combined with a critical lack of resources and supports for families like mine and our children were the catalyst that sent me to graduate school and onward to my mission to help families!
My goal is to empower, support, and help you conquer the challenges you may be encountering now or will encounter in this crazy journey we call life because let’s face it….sometimes life stinks! Whether you are a survivor of childhood trauma and abuse, a weary parent, a bickering couple, or simply an overwhelmed, stressed human, I am committed to helping you with high quality, compassionate, and individualized care to help you achieve your goals and strengthen your family.
